Small Business Saturday

We love turkey. We love carbs. We love celebrating. We love shopping. And we love our community. As next Thursday passes and we move squarely into the frenzy of holiday shopping, we're focusing on some of the ways we can impact our community. Shopping locally is a way to do that. As much as Black Friday is akin to consumerism gone wild, Small Business Saturday (November 28) and Small Brewery Sunday (November 29) mean you’re shopping for the betterment of the community. Simply put, spending money locally helps local businesses. The money goes directly to wages, healthcare, paying the rent; just to name a few. Small businesses are our hubs for human connection, they help shape our community’s unique identity.

Unfortunately, small businesses have borne the brunt of the economic fallout stemming from public health measures aimed at slowing the spread of COVID-19.  The service industry in particular has been hit especially hard, including restaurants, breweries and distilleries.  With reduced seating capacity and early curfews on alcohol sales, many establishments are straining to survive on such razor thin margins.  So, with Small Business Saturday and Small Brewery Sunday just around the corner, I implore those fortunate enough to invest in your community.  Here are a few ideas:

Gift certificates to your favorite eatery

They make great stocking stuffers!

Purchase alcohol from a local brewery / distillery

You avoid the lines at the liquor store, they receive funds immediately.

Take Out / Delivery

Most restaurants have perfected the “To-Go” process.

Hint: Tips are still very much appreciated!

Seek out local hooch at the grocery / liquor store

Not sure what’s local?  Most is labeled and liquor store staff can point out a few options. There’s more than you think!
