As 2020 continues to surprise us with more and more madness, we are starting to see a tiny light through the tunnel as outdoor patios and bars are beginning to reopen. With the weather finally starting to cool down, here are 10 of the best outdoor patios in SLC (in no specific order) where you can stay safe and have a cold one. Let’s end this summer with a bang!

There’s never a dull moment when you’re out for a drink at the Green Pig Pub. This Salt Lake staple has a new reason to stop in every night. Whether it’s for Trivia night on Sundays or just to catch a game on one of their 14 TVs, you’re guaranteed to have an exciting night on their gorgeous rooftop patio. Just look for the giant red roof in the heart of the city!

As the pandemic has taken away so many great concerts from us this year, Gracie’s is the perfect destination to give you that live music fix that we’ve all been searching for. The bar features several local bands and DJ’s every week from Thursday-Saturday. With both up and downstairs patio seating, Gracie’s is a great spot to get outside and enjoy some much needed live entertainment with a delightful view of Downtown Salt Lake.

Wait times to get on the patio at Purgatory are never too long — that’s because it’s a great deal larger than their indoor seating. This bar is covered from head to toe with gorgeous murals that showcase some of Utah’s best local drink companies including their own little twist to each painting. Best known for their brunch, you’ll have to make sure to order the breakfast potatoes with whatever delicious meal you’re having!

Water Witch

Water Witch is by far one of the most electrifying, fan favorite bars in Utah. They showcase their outstanding bartending skills night in and night out by constantly reinventing their drink menu, while using an experimental yet so delicious touch to each of their drinks. Probably the most innovative bar in Salt Lake, Water Witch is also famous for conducting collaborations with local companies, one of which even being with ice cream powerhouse Normal Club!

The Garten

By far one of the prettiest outdoor patios in Utah. When you go to The Garten, you’ll forget that you’re only 5 minutes away from the heart of the city. Surrounded by gorgeous plants and shaded with a giant canopy, the ambience here alone will keep you coming back. The outdoor cider and beer garden is jam packed with several local craft brews as well as some of the tastiest ciders from Mountain West Hard Cider. Just on the outskirts of Salt Lake, Garage on Beck is a great place to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. The patio bar has plenty of live music and an authentic rock n roll vibe. Having several comfort food options, Garage on Beck is an eccentric getaway that's sure to clear your mind.

Just up the hill on 8th Ave is the very well known restaurant and bar, Avenues Proper. As the smallest brewery in the state of Utah, you’re sure to become a regular once you try one of their many exclusive craft beers. Their large patio is shaded by huge umbrellas and provides great space to socially distance. Some of the beers are only brewed once a year so you’ll have to keep updated on what they have in store for you each month.

They say you’re not a true Salt Lake native until you’ve tried a burger from Lucky 13, and we agree! The dining bar just down the street from the Salt Lake Bees’ stadium has a plethora of gourmet Burger options, in addition to several local beers and cocktails. With several meat and vegetarian options, Lucky 13 is sure to satisfy whoever is going!

9th and 9th has so much character to it. It is home to some of Salt Lake's best restaurants, some to-die-for gelato and is also home to East Liberty Tap House. This beautiful neighborhood hangout is owned by a family business that locally sources all of their ingredients.

Just finishing a long bike ride through the city? Well Handlebar is a great spot to reward yourself with a cold one before finishing up on your ride home. The dog-friendly bar is located on 300 West and has plenty of space for you to park your bike. With irresistible food and drink options, taking a trip on your bike has never seemed so desirable!
